Libraries, archives and museums offer large collections of digital materials that are free to use in your creative projects. Learn how to find them, and how to know what uses are permitted.
Making cover art for your band's album? Designing fabric for your clothing business? Need audio to sample for your podcast? Looking for old recipes to make and share on TikTok? Cultural institutions around the world are digitizing their collections to make them available online. Everyday the number of images, sounds and textual works that you can access and reuse is growing. In this program we will explore these collections and share tips for wading through the large amounts of material available in order to find what you want. More importantly, we will explain how to determine what copyright restrictions apply to the things you find: important information if you intend to sell your products or monetize your reuse in some way! Participants will also learn about the tools available at the library that may help you complete your next project.
Bring your own device to browse and search along with the instructor, or use one of the laptops we will provide.
