Join author and Upper Arlington High School alum Rose Gottemoeller for a discussion of her book, Security through Cooperation: Space, Nuclear Weapons, and US-Russia Relations After the Cold War. Drawing on historical record and diplomatic experience, she challenges claims that the United States sought to undermine Russia after the Soviet breakup. Instead, she argues successive administrations viewed cooperation with Russia as essential to global security. This began under George H. W. Bush and continued under Bill Clinton, expanding US-Russia cooperation in technology, space, and security. It persisted under George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin, advancing collaboration in space, counterterrorism, and nuclear energy. The talk reflects on future opportunities for cooperation once Russia re-engages with international security frameworks.
Rose Gottemoeller is the William J. Perry lecturer at the Center for International Security and Cooperation in Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and a Hoover Institution Research Fellow.
