Crime novelist Andrew Welsh-Huggins discusses the creation of his new thriller series, The Mailman, featuring freelance courier Mercury Carter.
Andrew will review the origins of the character, his first appearances in short stories, and how Andrew set about writing book-length adventures about Carter, who appeared first in The Mailman in January and returns in March in The Delivery.
Bio: Andrew Welsh-Huggins, a longtime Columbus resident, is the author of the critically acclaimed thriller The Mailman, a Library Journal-starred book introducing Mercury Carter, a freelance courier who has never missed a delivery and will do just about anything to keep that streak alive. Publishers Weekly noted: “With full-throttle pacing from start to finish, this will have Jack Reacher fans hoping Carter is back in action soon.” Andrew is also the author of the Shamus Award-nominated Andy Hayes private eye series, and editor of the short story anthology, Columbus Noir. Andrew's stories have appeared in multiple magazines and anthologies, including The Best Mystery Stories of the Year 2021, 2024, and 2025 (forthcoming), and The Best Private Eye Stories of the Year 2025 (forthcoming).
