Nazis looted and destroyed art for over a decade. Rape of Europa traces the systematic and brazen thefts of huge amounts of works of art.
Roger Ebert titled his review of this documentary, “History’s most malevolent art lovers”. Described as “a film that takes the audience into the violent whirlwind of fanaticism, greed, and warfare that threatened to wipe out the artistic heritage of Europe,” we will discuss Klimt’s Woman in Gold, the heroic work of the Monuments Men, legal issues of restitution of art and the stark reality that art was destroyed. This film is based on the book Rape of Europa by Lynn H. Nicolas.
