Learning about Generative AI can seem like a daunting task involving developing fluency with new terms, skills, and tools. Join us for an introduction to GenAI and learn some of the AI basics needed to get started as well as how instructors at Ohio State are planning to build AI Fluency with the next generation of college students.
Speaker bio:
Larry Hurtubise, M.A., PhD is a curriculum and instruction consultant at the Ohio State University’s Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning where he leads the development of programming for educators learning to teach in light of GenAI. He received a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Ohio University where he studied the professional identity formation of clinician educators.
During his 25+ year career at Ohio State, Larry has served in a variety of educational developer roles including Senior Instructional Designer in the Health Sciences Center for Knowledge Management, Director of Office of Educational Innovation and Scholarship in the College of Pharmacy and founding member of the College of Medicine’s Center for Education and Scholarship. He designed professional development programs related to online learning, mobile devices, social media, and teaching via video conferencing helping educators consider the implication of using new technologies to reach curricular goals.
Dr. Hurtubise has been awarded external funding to study faculty learning communities, mentoring and the professional identity formation of health professions educators. His published work can be found in Academic Medicine, the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions, the Journal of Graduate Medical Education, Medical Educator, and Clinical Teacher. He is a member of the Review Board for Teaching and Learning in Medicine, is a past Chair of The Generalist in Medical Education Steering Committee, and in 2020 was recognized a Laureate in the AAMC Central Group on Educational Affairs.
